The Echinus Pots - made to order
Inspired by the sea urchin. Creating functional art that can be used for food, jewelry, coins, ceremony smudging and be turned over for a unique sculpture piece when not in use.
Materials: clay with clear satin glaze on inside of bowl.
Challenges- Figuring out the shrinkage rate of the clay body for the finished piece. Rolling out each leg to attach to the bowl and attaching them in the proper position to have them be stable for when in use. Making sure each piece of clay, once rolled out to desired shape, was dry enough before starting the hand building process so it didn’t collapse on itself.
Attaching the clay parts to one another properly to ensure they wouldn’t crack or fall off during the drying, sanding and firing phase.
