Wabi-Sabi Knobby - Flower Wall Hooks: Handmade ceramic clay wall hook with handmade wood ball hook. Artists: Kristy and Jeff Turney
Inspiration behind the ceramic and wood wall hooks was to create functional, artistic pieces that look great hanging on your wall. These pieces are all handmade and have a Wabi-Sabi aesthetic. They are all one of a kind and find perfection through their designed imperfections.
Using ceramic and wood together to create visual intrigue and a natural material tactile experience.
Materials: Wood from felled trees, local carpentry project offcuts or from a Canadian wood company. I use clays and glazes that have more of a neutral tone to complement any space. Some of the woods used are cherrywood, maple, walnut, arbutus, black locust, and spalted maple. Some of the clay bodies are M340GS, speckled buff, M390, calico, F97
Challenges- Figuring out the shrinkage rate of the clay body and making the pieces that percentage bigger than the finished piece. Making sure the wood ball fits properly and the clay piece lays flat to the wall.
Ceramic roughly 1.5”H x 2”D
Wood roughly 1” - 2.5”
